As first-year students embark on their college experience, they will all take part in Loyola's living learning program, Messina. The common text for Messina is Just Mercy, by Bryan Stevenson. The book, a compelling first-hand account of a lawyer who defends the poor and wrongly condemned, speaks to the inequality in the justice system.

The Student Government Association (SGA) is the student government at Castleton University. The branches are the Congress, the Student Court, and the Campus Activities Board. As the student government of Castleton, the SGA represents the interests of Castleton students. The SGA President is the official spokesperson of the association and oversees all student association activities, development and fiscal planning.
The White Coat Ceremony was designed in 1993 by The Arnold P. Gold Foundation as a way to welcome new students into the medical profession and to set clear expectations regarding their primary role as physicians. The annual tradition, which includes the cloaking and recitation of the medical oath by participants, emphasizes the importance of compassionate care as well as scientific proficiency in medicine and nursing.
